Discover the Beauty within the Boundary
The Lindsay Heights Neighborhood Improvement District (NID 12) was created by the City of Milwaukee through resolution #211511 in 2022, with its first year of operation commencing in 2023. It exists with the boundaries of Lindsay Heights, a vibrant neighborhood with a rich history and a hopeful future. Once associated with shifting populations and past struggles, including its recognition as a stop on the Underground Railroad at what is now Clarence and Cleopatra Johnson Park, Lindsay Heights today is known as the home of "Cultural Pioneers." Named after Bernice Lindsay in 1977, this community boasts a collective of businesses and community organizations dedicated to promoting healthier lifestyles, community engagement, and entrepreneurship. Walnut Way Conservation Corp. Founded by Sharon and Larry Adams in 2002, is one of our trusted anchor organizations. Walnut Way has transformed a once-demolished building into an active resource center, fostering gardens and orchards while offering employment pathways and health programs. As the neighborhood continues to face challenges like deteriorating housing and crime, the Lindsay Heights Neighborhood Improvement District actively transforms the area. Dedicated residents are working to enhance social cohesion, economic mobility, and health outcomes, driving efforts to revitalize the community through the Innovation & Wellness Commons. Together, they are paving the way for a brighter future in Lindsay Heights.
